　　《英文诵读》是一套适合不同年龄、不同英文水平的儿童阅读的英语诵读类图书。本册《英文诵读》安排了八个单元：心灵世界、成长的天空、爱的故事、节日的歌声、自然的风、童颜童趣、调皮捣蛋、时间的玫瑰。选文在前四册以儿童诗以及适合儿童阅读的经典英文诗歌的基础上，逐渐体现西方文化色彩，并在“注释”及“欣赏”中加以阐释，让孩子在诵读中了解西方文化，培养英语语感。
　　1.经典性：特选英国的儿歌、童谣以及反映孩子生活特色的诗歌，同时考虑中国孩子的文化环境。
　　2.序列性：根据小学生的阅读能力有序安排。这里既考虑到他们的语言能力，也考虑到他们的生理、心理特点。一二年级的单册分上、下两卷，每卷有4 个单元共16 个周次，以对应每学期的16 个周次，每周安排2 篇作品。三年级到六年级的单册，除了和低年级一致的每学期16 个周次、每周2 篇作品外，每周多安排1 篇拓展文本，以供学有余力的孩子诵读。每月（四周）作为一个模块设定主题。
　　3.趣味性：为使孩子们真正喜欢上诵读，编者在选文时充分考虑到了儿童的审美情趣。其中尤其突出的有两点：其一是所有选文的节奏和韵律清新、自然，特别增加韵文内容，适合孩子诵读、记忆；其二是文本的内容大多反映孩子的生活和个性，能真正给他们一种美的享受和对语言的想象。
